Traditional medicine accounted for approximately 30% of primary health consultations in rural areas, significantly higher than urban settings where it represented about 15%. Themes included cultural integration and patient preference. The study highlights the critical role of traditional medicine in Tanzanian healthcare systems, advocating for its formal recognition to enhance accessibility and effectiveness. Policy makers should advocate for policy reforms that recognise traditional medicine as a legitimate part of the healthcare system, ensuring its integration into national health strategies.
