Introduction. The rapidly changing planetary world, the desire of society to live in harmony with the environment, the increase in eco-events to form the ecological culture of people require a new ecological paradigm of youth education, taking into account the region of residence. In this regard, it is relevant to study the substantive aspects of training a teacher of Russian language and literature for effective environmental education of schoolchildren in the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) in the process of literary education. The purpose of the article is to disclose the substantive approaches to methodological support for eco-education of future literature teachers when studying the disciplines of the educational activity module in a federal university. Materials and methods. The study involved 52 students of the North-Eastern Federal University named after M.K. Ammosov (Russian Federation) in the field of training «Pedagogical education». Methods: content analysis of regulatory, scientific, scientific and methodological literature, questionnaires, pedagogical experiment on the problems of environmental education of students. KEYWORDS Results. The study found that students have a standard understanding of the problems of the surrounding Yakutia: «forest fires» (57%), «pollution of water bodies, rivers, lakes» (37%), «garbage problem» (28%), etc. However, the most important problem of permafrost degradation as the basis of all life in the region remains outside the subjects' field of vision; there remains a significant gap between the environmental values and the actual actions of the respondents. It was determined that one of the effective means of environmental education of students is the problematic analysis of regional literary texts, since the authors, living in the same harsh climatic conditions, convey in their works a careful, sacred attitude to nature, following the traditions and culture of the northerners. Conclusion. The study showed that future literature teachers are ready to adopt pro-ecological behavior, are receptive to the ideas, meanings, and images of eco-oriented works by regional authors; they plan to engage in eco-education of schoolchildren through the subject «Literature».
