The Energy Transformation and Emergent Time Framework (‘ETF’) in this paper proposes that time is not an independent dimension, but an emergent field created and perpetually sustained by the continuous transformation, or exchange, of energy across all physical scales. This framework seeks to offer a unified, mechanistic explanation for phenomena currently described by the successful geometry of General Relativity (GR). ETF does not challenge the mathematical accuracy of Special or General Relativity but offers a proposal for the underlying physical reality that gives rise to GR’s spacetime geometry, and gravitational and inertial mass equivalence. It shifts the focus of investigation from quantising the geometry of GR to understanding the nature of energy transformation as the source from which time and gravity emerge. ETF proposes (1) energy, a scalar quantity, must necessarily engage in directional, vector-mediated mechanisms (forces, momentum transfer, field gradients etc.) during any transformation or exchange, (2) this produces emergent time (3) An underlying explanation for inertial and gravitational mass equivalence is explained by their shared origin (4). Gravity is viewed as a manifestation of proper time-rate gradient (time curvature) within a cosmic-wide time field which is also introduced in the framework. (5) Dark Energy and Dark Matter are unified, and (6) a mechanistic explanation for how gravitational waves propagate through a vacuum is proposed and finally (7), why the arrow of time points forward and the paradox of entropy and increasing constraints on the path future energy transformations must take.
