This paper argues that entropic asymmetry is not merely a feature of thermodynamic systems but the foundational ground within which thermodynamics operates. It distinguishes a breadth claim -- that directional asymmetry is broader than thermodynamic entropy and is partially supported by cross-domain measurement-layer evidence -- from a priority claim -- that foundational asymmetry is ontologically prior to thermodynamics. The paper introduces information exchange as the substrate-independent medium through which recursion operates and develops entropy as the proposed measure of any information exchange event's capacity to constitute differentiated states. It then draws a structural distinction between first-order recursive exchange, in which constituted events do not include the constituting as content, and second-order recursive exchange, in which the exchange's own constitution is simultaneously and structurally an input to what it produces. This distinction grounds the paper's central contribution: the threshold temporality thesis, according to which time becomes content of events at the crossing from first-order to second-order recursive exchange.
