A Study of Mural Plants in North 24 Parganas, West Bengal

If we observed carefully we can see easily many plants can grow on the wall of old houses they does not required sufficient amount of soil, water and mineral they are called mural plants actually they are stress tolerant plants . My work on mural plant species of some significant areas of North 24 parganas in west Bengal . Present study covered Naihati, Halisahar, Bongaon, and Barasat which are important zones of North 24 parganas. After the study 53 Mural plant species are recoded out of them 45 species are Dicotyledons 4 species are Monocotyledons and 4 species are Pteridophytes .Dicotyledonous families are Asteraceae(9 Species), Moraceae(5 Species),Brassicaceae (4 Species),Euphorbiaceae (3 Species), Amaranthaceae, Cleomaceae, Lamiaceae, Phyllanthaceae, and Utricaceae( 2 Species), Acanthaceae, Papaveraceae, Apocynaceae, Cannaceae, Commelinaceae, Cucurbitaceae,Convolvulaceae,Fabaceae,Oxiladaceae,Piperaceae,Saliaceae,Malvaceae,Solanaceae,Menispermaceae( 1 Species for each). Monocotyledonous family mainly Poaceae grow with 4 species. Two Pteridophytes families like Aspliniaceae (2 Species) and Pteridaceae(2 Species) successfully grow in the walls . During the study it was observed that many plants were dried so they could not identified if dried plants can be identify number of plant species increased.
