The study and mapping of the Earth’s gravitational field is an important area of research. For this purpose, constellations of spacecraft are actively used. The key scientific equipment of such a constellation is the intersatellite ranging system (microwave and/or laser) and a precision accelerometer, which are used to measure the main target parameters. This paper discusses the fundamental principles of these measurements, as well as the potential for such a project to be implemented in Russia.
