Abstract This article analyses how UK MPs engage with LGBTQ issues through nonlegislative parliamentary mechanisms. Drawing on original datasets of LGBTQ-related Early Day Motions (2005–25), e-petitions (2010–25), and descriptive representation, it traces patterns of symbolic action, public participation, and visible diversity. Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer (LGBTQ)–related EDMs have increased but attract declining and partisan support, operating primarily as expressive signals. LGBTQ e-petitions are rare yet achieve comparatively high publication, response, and debate rates, reflecting symbolic rather than substantive responsiveness. Growing LGBTQ representation expands visibility but does not increase use or effectiveness of these tools. Overall, nonlegislative mechanisms offer recognition with limited institutional traction.
