New Derived Adjectives in the Modern Russian Language

The article presents the analysis of dynamic processes in the word formation of adjectives on examples of new forms taken from the texts of mass media and Internet communication. The article considers the ways of word formation and word-formation models, by which potential and occasional adjectives are formed. The new forms reflect both general tendencies in the development of Russian word formation and specific tendencies peculiar to adjectives. The general tendencies include: 1) democratization of the language, manifested in a large number of colloquial words; 2) internationalization of the lexicon, which is manifested in the word-forming activity of foreign-language stems and foreign-language prefixes; 3) economy of linguistic means, i.e. the consolidation of syntactic units into derivative adjectives. The specific phenomena of adjectival word-formation include: the predominance of relative adjectives formed from nouns, the efficiency of wordformation, the substantiation of adjectives.
