Abstract—Serverless computing has emerged as a transformative paradigm in cloud computing, enabling developers to focus solely on writing code without the burden of managing server infrastructure 14. By leveraging Function-as-a Service (FaaS) and Backend-as-a-Service (BaaS) models, serverless platforms provide automatic scaling, high availability, and a cost-effective pay per-use billing mechanism 13. This paper examines the fundamental principles of serverless architecture, its advantages in terms of scalability, reduced operational complexity, and rapid deployment, along with the technical and operational challenges it presents, including cold start latency, vendor lock-in, and security concerns 1. A comprehensive literature review is presented to highlight current trends, tools, and research efforts aimed at addressing these challenges. The paper concludes with a discussion on the future direction of serverless computing, including its integration with edge computing, improvements in performance optimization, and its growing role in shaping next-generation cloud native applications 10.
