The new wave of technology has greatly shifted the entire world of business, creating new prospects along with problems for small and medium enterprises (SMEs). Unlike large corporations, funded with abundant resources, SMEs are often financially constrained in capital, expertise, and infrastructure. Thus, the process of digital transformation is not only more complex, but also more critical for survival and competitiveness. This research analyzes the effects of digital transformation on SMEs, specifically how technology adoption impacts an organization’s efficiency, customer interactions, innovation capabilities, and overall digital sustainability. This paper uses secondary descriptive research methods to combine literature regarding the primary advantages of digital transformation which consist of expanded access to markets, better data-driven decision-making, and improved coping strategies against external shocks like pandemics and economic recessions. The research also highlights the lack of financial resources, the prevailing skill gap, cybersecurity challenges, and change resistance as other notable factors. The analysis image shows that the digitally driven SMEs increase in performance and competitiveness. However, most of them still face difficulties with achieving sustainability and fully integrating digital strategies into their business. In this case, the discussion underlines the need for more favourable legislation and highly focused training and affordable digital tailored to SMEs. This paper intends to provide a strategic roadmap for SMEs, policymakers, and other stakeholders in addressing the systematic and resource-based barriers to digital transformation.
