Subject. This article discusses the significance housing policy in the socioeconomic development of countries and the issues of support for socially vulnerable groups of the population. Objectives. The article aims to identify the most effective tools and approaches that can be applied in the implementation of housing policy in Russia. Methods. For the study, I used the general scientific research methods. Results. The article finds that in various countries, the main focus of housing policy is on improving the energy efficiency of the housing stock and developing rural areas. The analysis of the mechanisms for ensuring housing accessibility and protecting socially vulnerable groups of the population makes it possible to identify the most successful approaches, including State support, the stimulation of affordable housing construction, and the development of financial instruments. Conclusions. The development of energy efficient technologies, support for the low-income and socially vulnerable groups, and the use of public-private partnership mechanisms can contribute to improving the accessibility of housing in Russia.
