Sleep plays a crucial role in maintaining human health. However, many people experience sleep disturbances throughout their lives. Studies show a high prevalence of sleep disorders, which negatively affect the quality of life of millions of people. The paper summarizes the data of international and Russian epidemiological studies on sleep disorders. Epidemiological studies are one of the important areas in the study of sleep disorders and provide information on both clinical aspects and factors affecting their prevalence. The literature review emphasizes the importance of studying the quality of sleep since the cumulative long-term effects of sleep disorders are associated with a wide range of adverse health effects. The results of the studies indicate the need to study sleep disorders in different population groups and in different regions.
