Conventional Lagrangian-Eulerian (LE) fuel spray simulations have difficulty capturing the near-field liquid dispersion characteristics. To address this problem, a new Near-field Lagrangian Dispersion Model (NFLDM) has been recently developed and validated exclusively against Volume-of-Fluid (VoF) numerical data. The present work expands the evaluation of the NFLDM to include additional projected mass density assessment with experimental data. Additionally, the work now considers the effects of vaporization, heat transfer, and combustion. The results show that in the near field, there is a considerable improvement with NFLDM over traditional LE calculations in terms of spatial liquid distribution. However, in more macroscopic validation exercises, such as ignition time delay and vapor penetration time history, NFLDM performs very similarly to conventional LE calculations. Reasons for this trend are provided in the conclusions.
