Abstract This paper analyzes the Emotional Sense patent developed within the Fraunhofer Institute ecosystem, focusing on the Mood Tuner algorithm led by CEO Armin G. Schmidt. Originally designed for emotion-based music selection, the technology has evolved into a scalable system capable of integrating emotional data into digital platforms and wearable devices. Grounded in neoclassical consumer theory and extended through behavioral economics and political economy, the paper examines how emotional signals become embedded in individual utility functions and aggregate social welfare. Using formal economic modeling and institutional analysis, we show that emotional data constitutes a form of emotional capital, reshaping consumption patterns, market coordination, and welfare outcomes. Beyond commercial applications, the study explores the role of Emotional Sense as a form of digital infrastructure with implications for cross cultural communication and digital diplomacy. The findings suggest that emotion-sensing technologies represent a paradigm shift in the relationship between technology, markets, and society, warranting consideration not only as market innovations but also as contributors to global social cohesion in the digital age.
