Abstract Facial gunshot injuries are uncommon in our region but are known to cause significant morbidity and mortality. High-energy transfer gunshots at close range are known to inflict the most damage. The treatment of gunshot wounds in the maxillofacial region is complex, and the management is dependent on the type of weapon, bullet characteristics, kinetic energy, place of impact, as well as the patient’s general health status. The underlying facial bone fractures caused by firearms may pose a significant challenge to maxillofacial surgeons in terms of initial management and reconstruction. We report a case of gunshot injury to the face penetrating the chin, resulting in a comminuted fracture of the mandible. A multidisciplinary approach involving otolaryngology and orthopedic surgery specialties was necessary because the deflection of the bullet upon its impact on the mandible caused deflection of it toward the larynx, causing laryngeal injury and its final lodgment over the clavicle.
