Venous leg ulcers are common and are often painful, and can markedly undermine quality of life. Compression therapy, first-line treatment for venous leg ulcers, can halve the likelihood of recurrence. However, health professionals do not necessarily recommend compression therapy to every person who may benefit, many patients do not adhere with treatment fully and evidence shows that awareness of endo-venous ablation surgery is relatively poor among nurses. Addressing these issues may help reduce the relatively high rate of recurrence of venous leg ulcers.
