What happens when the desire to stay alive is replaced by a wish to die in a specific manner? ‘Not Dead Yet’ explores lives lived near death, lives that unfold toward assisted dying as people anticipate their own voluntary death with assistance. This documentary chronicles the parallel lives of two retired theater actors living in a circus wagon beside a German lake, and a Swiss physician who provides assistance in dying—lives that have intersected in the past and may converge again in the future. Through intimate stories, the film explores the lived experience of assisted dying as people navigate both personal and structural challenges associated with either seeking or providing a form of death that is not only controversial but also remains illegal in most jurisdictions worldwide.
