Abstract Background: The current study elucidated the correlation between Helicobacter pylori infections and their role as a potential trigger for the development of multiple sclerosis (MS). MS disease can cause brain damage. The immune system triggered by this disease attacks nerve fibers disrupting the brain ’ s signals to the body. H. pylori can enhance the progression of symptoms. Recent research studies indicate that those with an active H. pylori infection have a higher risk of developing MS than people without the infection. Objective: The objective of this study is to shed light on H. pylori for its danger to human health and its relationship with MS. Materials and Methods: A total of 100 blood samples from people ranging in age from 13 to 65 years were taken between January and June of 2022. The patients’ diagnoses were made by the consultant medical staff at the Dr. Saad Al-Witry Hospital for Neurosciences, Baghdad, Iraq. The patient groups have been divided into three categories: the first category consisted of 36 MS patients with H. pylori. The second category consisted of 34 MS patients without H. pylori. The third category consisted of 30 persons who were healthy controls. Immunoglobulin A (IgA), immunoglobulin G (IgG), cytotoxin-associated gene A (CagA), and vacuolating cytotoxin A (VacA) antibodies were evaluated in each study group using the enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay technique. Results: The results revealed that the statistical analysis indicates a highly significant increase ( P ≤ 0.01) in anti- H. pylori IgA, IgG, CagA, and VacA antibodies in the serum of patients with MS diseases and H. pylori in comparison with the control group. Additionally, patients with MS diseases without H. pylori also show a highly significant increase ( P ≤ 0.01). Conclusion: Based on the findings of the present study, it is suggested that the presence of H. pylori infection could potentially exert a significant influence on the development or progression of MS.
