Augmented Individual Intelligence (AII) is a framework that describes how a human and an AI system can form a continuous, adaptive cognitive partnership. Instead of treating AI as a tool used occasionally, AII explains how people can integrate AI into their thinking, planning, reflection, and decision‑making in an ongoing way. The framework draws on research from cognitive science, HCI, and systems design to show how AI can strengthen human agency, metacognition, and problem‑solving without replacing human judgment. This paper introduces the core principles of AII, outlines the cognitive mechanisms involved, and proposes design guidelines for building systems that support long‑term human–AI cooperation.
