Two previously undescribed iridoid glycosides, paedoside I (1) and paedoside J (2), were isolated from the aerial parts of Paederia foetida. The structures of these compounds, especially their absolute configurations, were elucidated by comprehensive spectroscopic analysis and chemical methods. Compounds 1 and 2 were tested for cytotoxicity, hepatoprotective activity, and inhibitory effects on NO production in LPS-activated microglia, and 2 exhibited hepatoprotective activity against N-acetyl-p-aminophenol (APAP)-induced HepG2 cell damage.
