While most statewide EMS protocols in the US did not include field-initiated blood transfusion, the protocols that do exist vary widely. With the increasing implementation of prehospital blood programs, these findings suggest an opportunity to provide more robust evidence-based guidelines for prehospital blood transfusion to improve patient care and outcomes.
