Community nursing teams are pivotal in supporting individuals at the end of life (Bowers, et al., 2025a). It is estimated that up to 40% of district nurses’ time is spent providing care for this cohort of patients (Queen’s Institute of Community Nursing, 2017). Community nursing teams provide holistic support for patients and their carers, at a time when families can experience immense vulnerability and uncertainty. This often requires building and sustaining therapeutic relationships in a short space of time. Talking openly about death and dying is a challenging aspect of care, even for experienced nurses; but what happens if community nurses don’t have these conversations?
Blackmore et al. (Fri,) studied this question.
