The streamwise vorticity component is studied in the wake behind a finite-length circular cylinder attached to a wall. The cylinder, with an aspect ratio of 2, is subjected to cross-flow; the Reynolds number, based on the cylinder diameter, was 9.7 thousand. The Stereo PIV method was used in several measuring planes oriented perpendicularly to the flow at distances ranging from 1.667 to 11 cylinder diameters from the axis. A dominating counter-rotating vortex couple was detected in the time-mean field of the wake. High-intensity vorticity fluctuating activity was observed in the near wake central part, in the streamwise distance between 2 and 5 diameters close to the wall.
