ABSTRACT Life may persist in the environment for millions of years if it remains undisturbed. Humans are the most unreliable and possibly the most disruptive part of the system. The Environmental Intelligence Quotient (EIQ) is a quantitative index that measures the environmental concern, commitment, attitude, and ability of individuals, business organisations, and countries with the help of the 3A's model, combining indicators of awareness, ability, and action. For the present study, data were collected from 744 respondents belonging to different demographic categories. It was found that a middle‐income category male born between 1981 and 1996, having a higher educational qualification and employed in a hilly region, tends to have a higher EIQ. EIQ is conceived and developed in such a way that it can be used in conjunction with other national and international indices, such as the Sustainable Development Goals index, Environmental Performance Index, and Human Development Index.
