Abstract The present study deals with the quantification of strain accumulated in the Bomdila gneiss of the lesser Himalayan rocks exposed in the Bhalukpong-Tawang transect in the West Kameng district of Arunachal Pradesh. The study involves a comparative study of the accumulated strain amount in mesoscopic (field) and microscopic scales. For determining the quantitative strain sections with deformation markers are selected and strain analysis was performed using the Fry method from scaled field photographs and photomicrographs. The strain analysis in different scales from three different sub-locations in and around Rupa and Bomdila area (West Kameng district, Arunachal Pradesh, India) show that there is considerable variation in the strain values both in the mesoscopic and microscopic scales (with highest strain value of 1.11 in the Tenga valley and lowest value of 0.66 in Dedza), and the variation in the strain accumulated on a particular site is indirectly proportional to the absolute strain value. Apart from this, the present study includes a comparative analysis of the strain accumulated in the host rock and the veins. It was found that although the textural relationship suggests that they are intruded at a later stage, the strain accumulated in the veins is higher (1.172) than the host rocks (1.085) which is mostly related to the mechanical properties of the minerals constituting the veins.
