This study analyzes research outputs collected by institution A’s library to examine the institution’s current status of OA publishing and the effectiveness of the library’s transformative agreements. Furthermore, it explores the library’s future research output collection strategy based on the analysis. The study subjects 3,481 SCIE-indexed journal articles in which the institution’s research participated as a corresponding author between 2022 and 2024. Individual articles and their OA status were systematically categorized, and the APC amount was estimated based on prior research. The results revealed the number of published OA articles by institution A slightly outperformed paywalled articles, with potential APC expenditures estimated at over 2 billion won. Also, while the transformative agreement signed in 2024 increased the number of OA articles published in hybrid journals and reduced APC, the overall impact on OA publishing was small, and only a specific publisher’s model was successful. Finally, to assess the scale of OA publishing and the amount of APC expenditures, researchers explored how the library could modify its research output collection strategy.
