Abstract— This paper examines newly developed and enhanced highway materials and technologies,highlighting those that enhance highway performance, substitute for limited or costly natural resources,and promote more sustainable highways. The emphasized materials and procedures have either beenestablished within the last 5 years and remain unused, or are being continued in the process ofdevelopment. They contained advancements in concretes, cements, asphalts, asphalt binders, metals,polymers, and aggregates, with a broader range of materials. Among the materials that eliminate noise,enhance smoothness, facilitate accelerated placement and reduced construction durations, decreaseenergy consumption, sequester CO2, and minimize prices. The study offers an explanation, applications,advantages, costs, current status, and sources for further details for each material. Aggregates mustwithstand strains from wheel loads on the surface course and pavement, and be resistant to wear fromthe abrasive effect of traffic. Both tar and bitumen, petroleum products derived from the distillation ofcrude oil, are bituminous binders used in pavement construction. In contrast, road tar has beenproduced by the destructive distillation of wood or coal. Bitumen and tar have a similar blackappearance. However, both materials possess distinct features, making them suitable for pavementconstruction. In this project, we conduct a thorough study of the physical properties of highwaymaterials. By understanding the properties of highway materials, we can enhance the quality of ourwork, which may contribute to building a strong and durable infrastructure. The following study mayhelp reduce major and minor accidents while using a good-quality road.
