Abstract The digital payment ecosystem in India has expanded rapidly over the past decade, especially after the introduction of UPI, mobile wallets, Aadhaar-enabled payment systems, and widespread smartphone penetration. Pune District, being one of Maharashtra’s leading urban and industrial centers, reflects strong growth in digital transaction adoption. This research paper examines the types and usage patterns of digital payment modes in Pune district and analyses their impact on the Indian economy. Primary data was collected through a structured questionnaire from 120 respondents across Pune city and semi-urban areas. A chi-square test was used to examine the relationship between demographic factors and preference for digital payments. The study reveals that digital payments have significantly improved transaction transparency, financial inclusion, business efficiency, and consumer convenience. However, challenges remain, including technical glitches, cyber security concerns, and inadequate digital literacy in semi-urban regions. The research concludes that digital payments play a vital role in strengthening India’s economic system and accelerating the transition toward a cash-less and transparent economy.
