The relevance of data, digitalization, and its transmission continues to increase to stay on the competitive edge. With the advent of Industry 4.0, the manufacturing domain is grained track towards the digital transformation. This change increases the relevance in the choice and application of communication protocols, for seamless data exchange. This paper therefore presents how a suitable communication protocol is selected and applied for an industrial application. For this purpose, the data from a DMG Mori 840 D sl CNC milling machine is captured, processed and displayed in an appropriate visualization tool. To achieve this goal, a suitable IoT architecture is selected and the requirements are derived based on the use cases context. The solution architecture is designed to be scalable, thereby also demonstrating basic concepts for processing data from KUKA robots and their digital twins. The general data life cycle in manufacturing and how the data is processed in this specific use case is also addressed. Finally, an overall architecture for data processing is drawn from these results and applied on the CNC milling machine data. The result of this is a dashboard application that displays and visualizes the machine data in real time.
