Introduction: Geographical distances between sample collection facilities and microbiology laboratories can be challenging in rural and remote areas in regional New South Wales. Centralised service models are associated with expensive courier systems and prolonged turnaround times. This encouraged us to explore the utility of rapid multiplex PCR models using Gram stain-positive blood culture broth as a service model.
