The shortage of carpentry technicians has become a serious problem. Public vocational training schools play a significant role in vocational training for carpentry technicians. However, the number of trainees has been decreasing, and it is needed to reveal the reality and factors. Thus, this paper reports recent trends in vocational development in Hiroshima Prefecture. First, the paper clarified the transition of vocational development since World War II. Second, we analyzed the trends in trainee enrollment and employment over recent years. Finally, the characteristics and challenges of the carpentry training system were summarized.
