This report presents the actual damage to shops in Tanga Market following two fires in 2022, focusing on the stay-or-leave decisions of affected shop owners. The survey revealed that working-age owners tended to resume operations relatively quickly, while elderly owners were more likely to close their businesses. In terms of relocation, elderly owners were more inclined to remain within Tanga Market area, whereas younger owners showed a higher tendency to move out. And, food beverage businesses, in particular, exhibited a notable trend of relocating outside the area.
