The Hyuga-Nada Sea off the east coast of Kyushu is one of the areas that often experience destructive earthquakes. The author continues to conduct literature research on historical earthquakes through various sources, including newspaper articles from those times. In this paper, he investigate the three Hyuga-Nada earthquakes in 1899, 1931, and 1941. The collected damage data and information have been classified and listed by the municipality at the time. Through this research, 1) details of casualties, 2) distribution of building damage, 3) extent of minor damage, and 4) damage and impact to lifelines have been clarified.
