Climate change is a complex and multidimensional challenge that requires interdisciplinary responses. Technological innovation is frequently presented as one pathway for addressing climate-related risks, and European Union programmes such as Horizon 2020 support research aimed at mitigating climate change and related societal challenges. This paper draws on a Horizon 2020–funded project that examines societal perceptions of Carbon Capture, Utilisation and Storage (CCUS) technologies in two European clusters. Focusing on a single qualitative case study interview conducted in Greece, the paper illustrates how long-term engagement with a local community can shape attitudes toward CCUS. The findings add depth to existing literature on CCUS social acceptance and participatory governance by highlighting the relevance of early community engagement, sociopolitical context, and the role of social capital and access to resources, rather than offering generalizable conclusions.
