Three NHS pension experts answer doctors’ questions about NHS pensions, from what early career doctors need to know to the impact of career breaks There are two NHS pension schemes, of which one has two sections, and whether you are a member of each depends on when you joined the scheme, explains Alex Clark, a chartered financial adviser with Chase DeVere which specialises in advising doctors and dentists. He says, “In simple terms, if you joined before 1 April 2008 you will be a member of the 1995 section of the 1995/2008 scheme. “If you joined after 31 March 2008 but before 1 April 2015 you will be a member of the 2008 section of the 1995/2008 scheme. “If you joined after 31 March 2015 then you will just be a member of the 2015 scheme.” Here’s Clark’s overview of the schemes: ### 1995 section ### 2008 section
