The present study is devoted to the terminological aspects of the doctrine of experimental legal regimes. The author notes that a holistic view of the following key issues has not been formed in legal science: the essence of the experimental legal regime, its differentiation from related concepts, and the content of the term. This affects the terminological unity. The definitions of the experimental legal regime, determined in the legislation of Russia, and the approaches developed in legal science to the definition of this concept are investigated. The author analyzes opinions on the relationship between an experimental legal regime, on the one hand, and a regulatory sandbox, a legal experiment, a pilot project, and an experimental legal regime in the field of digital innovation, on the other. Attention is also focused on the presence of other equivalents of the concept under study in legal scientific works. The author formulates the definition of an experimental legal regime. The research methodology is based on general scientific methods of cognition of phenomena (analysis, synthesis, abstraction, comparison, etc.). Guided by the topic of the work, special legal methods (formal legal, comparative legal) are also used. The novelty of the research lies in the identification of various approaches to the definition of the term "experimental legal regime" and their systematization. Based on the analysis of these approaches, the author provides his own definition of the phenomenon under consideration. It is stated that the experimental legal regime is a temporal, limited in scope, special legal order, formed by a special set of legal means and legal methods used, aimed at stimulating entrepreneurial activity to introduce innovative technologies into civil circulation. It is also concluded that the experimental legal regime and the regulatory sandbox are identical concepts. At the same time, an experimental legal regime should be understood not as any experimental temporary legal order, but as one that is associated with creating a favorable atmosphere for business entities to test the introduction of innovative technologies into the market of goods and services.
