A comprehensive understanding of the current coach education is deemed necessary. The purpose of this systematic review is to summarize the current evidence on coach education, as well as provide valuable insights for stakeholders involved in the development and delivery of learning opportunities for sports coaches. A systematic search was performed using the electronic databases EBSCOhost, Scopus and Web of Science. After screening, a total of 38 original studies examining the learning pathways of sports coaches with quantitative and/or qualitative methodology and 7,717 participants were included and analyzed. The results indicated that coaches at various levels shared some common needs but also had different desires in certain areas. Informal learning appears to be preferred by coaches. Mentoring and experiential learning, as well as enhancing networking opportunities among professionals, may facilitate coach education. Further research is required to examine the thoughts and desires of advanced / senior coaches who were notably absent from this review.
