A complex of tellurium(IV) chloride with -toluidine of the composition (HPT)TeCl·Cl was synthesized, its crystal structure was determined by X-ray diffraction analysis, and spectral and luminescent properties were studied. The complex has luminescence in the red spectral region at 77 K. Temperature-dependent distortions of the geometry of the tellurium(IV) complex and the temperature behavior of the thermal parameters of Cl atoms at 100 and 296 K are discussed. When the temperature decreases, hydrogen bonds N–H…Cl strengthen and, by their collective action on some Cl atoms, weaken the strength of their bonds with the central Te(IV) atom, which can affect the optical properties of the complex.
