Incidence of hypoxemia is associated with echocardiographic findings in dogs with advanced myxomatous mitral valve disease
Key Points
To explore the relationship between hypoxemia and echocardiographic findings in dogs suffering from advanced myxomatous mitral valve disease.
Used arterial blood gas analysis (ABGA) to detect hypoxemia.
Conducted echocardiographic assessments to evaluate severity of myxomatous mitral valve disease.
Compared findings with results from thoracic radiography.
Identified hypoxemia in dogs that thoracic radiography could not detect.
Found that echocardiographic findings correlate with the severity of hypoxemia in the studied population.
Abstract
ABGA is suitable for detecting hypoxemia that cannot be assessed by thoracic radiography; combined with echocardiography, it may contribute to the assessment of MMVD severity.
