In today's digitally connected world, digital literacy is becoming a set of competencies for everyday life, career advancement and social interaction. The importance of improving teachers' digital competences is covered in this paper, along with the difficulties the education sector faces when incorporating digital skills into teaching. Guided by the results of various projects aimed at improving the quality of teaching and personalizing learning through the improvement of digital competences of teachers, this work was created with the aim of indicating the guidelines for the development of digital competences of teachers, which find their basis in the Digital Competence Framework for Educators (DigiCompEdu). The key elements of this framework, such as the digital environment, teaching and learning, student evaluation and professional interaction, and the accompanying criteria for skill development are worth drawing attention to. It is especially important to focus on improving the digital literacy of teachers, which provides opportunities for teachers to improve the quality of teaching, ensure inclusiveness, individualization of students, and prepare them for the demands of the digital age. Therefore, in this work, special attention is paid to e-learning as a key component of professional development, work and functioning of teachers in modern education.
