This contribution focuses on the album amicorum of a young Bruges native of Spanish origin, Juan de Valencia. During his student years in Douai and later in Louvain in the period 1574-1578 he collected a number of most interesting inscriptions in a copy of the first edition of Joannes Sambucus Emblemata, printed in Antwerp in 1564. A first attempt is presented here to unveil some details on his Bruges family and his special ties with two other Bruges students, Johannes and Franciscus del Rio, and also with the famous Ludovicus Carrio, who later on became a professor at Louvain
Gilbert Tournoy (Mon,) studied this question.
