A comprehensive understanding of LVV integration and its consequences is necessary for understanding how these events influence host cell gene regulation and splicing, possibly identifying tunable variables for enhanced positive clinical outcomes. Here, we review the development of LVV systems, what is known about LVV integration patterns, technologies used to characterize patterns of LVV integration, and what is understood about the subsequent impact on host cell gene regulation and its potential linkage to patient malignancies.
