Electrification of the drivetrain leads to important challenges for related products. Without internal combustion engines NVH behaviour becomes a comfort issue. Advanced PM materials are required to fulfil these new requirements. Alloys which combine a high damping capacity with good mechanical properties are needed. Fe based composites reinforced with graphite can provide attractive solutions to problems involving fatigue, noise and vibration. In this paper a conventional Astalloy85Mo powder was chosen and mixed with different graphite grades. The size and the volume content of the graphite flakes were varied. The powder mixtures were pressed and sintered. The damping behaviour (at no amplitude) and the mechanical properties were measured at room temperature and compared with other highly damping materials and displayed in a Sugimoto diagram.
