Chinese folk music is not only an important part of Chinese culture, but also the core carrier and spiritual symbol of Chinese culture. Therefore, the inheritance and development of folk music should become an important task in contemporary society, and attention should be paid to linking folk music with social life. However, in the process of continuous social development, national music has not only been impacted by foreign music, but its own limitations also threaten the survival of this national music. In view of this, this paper studies the development of contemporary folk music, and conducts in- depth exploration and thinking on how to inherit and protect Chinese folk music.
