Electrification of society has been growing rapidly. At the same time, the demand for renewable energy has grown as well. Microgrids can be part of a solution as they incorporate renewable energy sources at a more local level and increase consumption efficiency. The possibility to take control over ones energy consumption is a new concept that, considering current demand, could be desirable. The aim of this project is to create the design and simulate a residential microgrid. The project utilizes photovoltaics (solar cells) and a battery for energy storage, and employs DC/DC converters to regulate the production. The project is structured into three parts: overarching topology, hardware and control system. The complete system is then tested together in two different modes: Island mode and grid connected. When both modes work as intended a switch is implemented to switch between the two modes.
