A recently reported P-GeH2-P germyl pincer ligand has been successfully applied to enable an efficient nickel-catalyzed dehydroborylation of alkenes. Isolation and characterization of key Ge–Ni complexes, combined with mechanistic studies, suggest that these species serve as catalytically relevant precursors. Furthermore, the germyl pincer ligand may exhibit a unique ability to promote the β-H elimination step in the nickel catalytic cycle.
