Progress in Materials Science is a theoretical course offered by the School of Materials Science and Engineering at Changsha University of Science and Technology for undergraduates. It mainly introduces the research, design and development of materials such as polymers, metals, and inorganic nonmetals, as well as the scientific progress and development trends in device processing and characterization technologies. In response to the characteristics of the course and the existing problems in teaching, the practice and exploration of teaching reform are carried out. In the teaching practice, a diversified lecture-style teaching mode combining “online and offline, in and out of class ” is adopted, focusing on the “innovation, high-order, and challenge” of the course as well as consolidating students' professional basic theoretical knowledge, broadening students' horizons, improving students' comprehensive quality, cultivating scientific spirit, and promoting students' long-term learning and development.
