The magnetocaloric characteristics of the medium-entropy Gd0.33Dy0.33Y0.33Ni compound and its hydride with the maximum hydrogen content to Gd0.33Dy0.33Y0.33NiH3 are considered. The maximum magnetocaloric effect for the initial compound equal to 3.7 J kg–1 K–1 is achieved at T = 66 K. The maximum MCE of the hydride is achieved at T = 11 K and is equal to 5.3 J kg–1 K–1. The cooling capacity of the medium-entropy alloy hydride exceeds that of the hydride of previously studied pseudo-binary alloy, which crystallizes with the formation of the same FeB-type orthorhombic structure.
