The health of humans, biodiversity, and marine ecosystems is seriously threatened by marine plastic waste. The study offers a comprehensive examination of global and regional initiatives aimed at addressing marine plastic pollution, with a focus on international agreements and case studies from around the world, including those from Bangladesh. This review article employs a qualitative methodology, analysing secondary data from scientific literature, policy documents, and case studies to assess the status, challenges, and responses to marine plastic waste. This analysis identifies significant gaps in enforcement, infrastructure, public awareness, innovation, and coordination. The purpose of this study is to assess the current state of marine plastic pollution in Bangladesh within the global context and provide targeted recommendations for more effective mitigation strategies. The study underscores the urgent need for bolstering investment in waste management, enhancing international and local coordination, putting enforcement mechanisms in place, infrastructure for management, promoting recycling techniques, and improving public awareness of the effects of contamination from plastics. By filling these gaps, more effective approaches can be developed to combat the pollution caused by marine plastic and preserve the oceans for future generations.
