Abstract Objectives: The main objective of the study is to delve into the attitudes of secondary level prospective teachers towards the utilization of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools in teacher education. Specifically, it focuses on their attitude towards the usability, functionality, efficiency, satisfaction and social influence associated with the use of AI tools in the teaching and learning processes. Method: This Normative survey involved a sample of 1178 Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) students from various teacher education institutions across Tamil Nadu, India. The participants were drawn from both first and second-year cohorts, providing a comprehensive overview of prospective teachers' attitudes towards AI in educational contexts. Findings: The findings indicate a generally positive attitude among female prospective teachers towards the use of AI tools in education. Participants reported high levels of satisfaction with the functionality of AI tools, highlighting prospective teachers from semi-urban areas exhibit a high level of attitude in usability and satisfaction. The study revealed that social influence plays a significant role in shaping attitudes, with peer and mentor encouragement contributing to a more favorable disposition towards AI integration in educational practices. Novelty: The quality of school education primarily depends on the quality of teacher education. Prospective teachers, who are in the formative stages, play a crucial role in shaping the future of education. Their attitudes towards AI tools can significantly influence how these technologies are adopted and utilized in educational settings.
